PROJECT OVERVIEW

What is Renew ‘22?

It’s no secret that our food & beverage spaces are showing their age, and that our kitchens are struggling to keep up with the needs of our Members, young and old. We believe that a revitalized restaurant and food & beverage operation, combined with additional seating, will increase both usage and revenues. Ultimately, food & beverage is a Club amenity and we expect Member visits and overall satisfaction to increase significantly.

You may also have noticed that our youth facilities are outdated and scattered throughout the Club. These facilities require significant upgrades to meet the needs of our youth population now and in the future. Centralized and expanded youth facilities allow us to offer young families additional programs and offerings.

What you may not know, is that Club staff have daily operational challenges or that much of the Club’s building infrastructure and systems (roof, plumbing, air handling system, to name just a few) are nearing end-of-life and need to be replaced regardless of any other renovations.

Altogether, these are the most pressing needs of the Club, as identified by the Board, Management, but, most importantly, by our Members.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

New Restaurant

The vision is to create a premium casual dining space with a finish and feel that will rival some of the most popular restaurants on the North Shore. The seating will be flexible and comfortable, leveraging one of the Club’s best assets – our incredible view of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. It will be space appropriate for a world-class club and one we believe every Member will be incredibly proud of.

Included in this concept are two distinct dining spaces – one for family dining and one for adult-only dining. Between the two spaces, the Club will be able to meet a range of Member needs, whether it’s for a celebratory dinner with friends, a casual weeknight meal, or a place for a relaxing drink after a match. Everyone will feel comfortable dining on the family side, which will be designed to ensure that families of all ages will enjoy their experience. Those looking for an adult-only experience can enjoy a child-free dining experience on the adults-only side. Both sides of the restaurant will offer Members a variety of seating options, from booths to high- and low-top tables, to satisfy everyone’s seating preferences.

The plan increases dining capacity, with:

  • Expanded family dining section with 40 more seats than our current space

  • Creation of an adult dining area (19+, no exceptions) with over 50 more seats than our current space

  • Expanded patio with 30 more seats that make the most of the Club’s breathtaking views

  • A total of 7250 sq. feet of interior restaurant space is up from the current 5500 sq. feet

  • Over 280 seats up from the current 190

Once the project is approved by Members, a restaurant consultant, industry experts, a Member design committee, and the interior designers for the project will be consulted during the detailed design phase to determine the best furniture and layout to be used.

EXPANDED KITCHENS

With no major updates in over 25 years, our kitchens lack the space and equipment to service our current dining capacity efficiently and safely. A new, expanded kitchen will reduce congestion, increase the speed of service, and offer the opportunity for menu creativity. Much of the existing kitchen equipment is past its end of life and needs to be replaced. Kitchen-design consultants will work with Chef Paul to design a kitchen that meets the needs of Hollyburn’s diverse menu preferences and improves food quality, consistency, and speed of service.

BISTRO 950

Renew ’22 will modernize and revitalize Bistro 950 while increasing seating capacity (80 seats up from the current 42 seats). Bistro 950 will be a social hub, the perfect pit stop for a healthy meal or smoothie on the go, a coffee with a friend, or a casual dining experience. The space will appeal to all ages and will have a fresh and modern vibe.

MEETING ROOM

Renew ’22 will create a new meeting space for Members by adding a south-facing meeting room with views of Vancouver. The 2,820 sq. ft space will offer the flexibility to be divided by airwalls to accommodate small business meetings or larger Member social events of up to 100 people. The Club’s current meeting space, the Creekside Room, (approximately 2,700 sq. feet) will be repurposed into smaller more efficiently laid out administrative offices; the Club’s current administration offices will be repurposed into a new, expanded, and centralized youth area.

YOUTH & FAMILY SPACE

Twenty percent of Hollyburn Members are under the age of 16. The Club needs the right facilities to serve and engage this demographic. Renew ’22 will refresh, relocate, and centralize our youth facilities, improving convenience and accessibility for families. Relocating the Administration Offices upstairs (to the current Creekside Room location) gives us the perfect opportunity to give back 25% of prime-Club real estate to Members for improved youth space. This space will be multi-purpose, home to youth programming, HollyVille, the Youth Center, and our Mini Scholars’ programs. Families can look forward to new, clean facilities which are designed for our mini-Members. We are also excited to add a brand-new outdoor playground which will be accessible to all families, not just children in HollyVille. Centralized youth space will also allow our Youth Team to better service youth areas, increase youth supervision and eliminate children running from one youth area to another. Overall indoor youth space will be increased by more than 35%.

NECESSARY FACILITY
& SYSTEMS UPGRADES

Some of the Club’s critical facility infrastructure and systems in our food & beverage areas are either end-of-life or require significant maintenance. Whether it’s our roof, our mechanical systems, our plumbing, and drainage, or seismic structural upgrades, these are not projects that can be put off and they will need to be addressed regardless. Doing this work as part of the Renew ’22 project enables us to conduct the work more efficiently and limit disruption by dovetailing it with the other renovation work.
