Renew '22 November 2023 Update

Winter Update  

We have been under construction for just over six months now, and have seen the incredible evolution of our Clubhouse off to a fast start. Phase I (Administration + The Kids Centre) is nearing completion, and we are preparing for the start of Phase II (Food & Beverage) to begin in early January. 

Phase I: Administration & The Kids Centre 

Schedule: Opening January 2024  

Status: On schedule and on budget   

We are pleased to report that Phase I (Youth and Administration) remains on schedule and is anticipated to come in at approximately 10% under budget. Our new administration offices were completed in mid-October and our Administration staff are already moved into their new home in what was previously used as the Creekside catering rooms. The new offices are a more modern, efficient layout and located in a less prime area of the property, giving us the opportunity to move the future new catering space into a south-facing area of the Club and utilize the large footprint of the old office space to create a consolidated home for The Kids Centre, which includes;  

  • HollyVille

  • Nursing Room 

  • Flex Room A (kids programming & multipurpose room)  

  • Flex Room B (teaching kitchen and mini-scholars classroom)   

  • Outdoor Playground 

The new Kids Centre is well underway and scheduled for completion in December. Hollyburn’s youngest Members will be able to move into their new digs for programming and HollyVille in early January 2024. 

Phase II: Food & Beverage  

Schedule: Current facilities are closing December 2023 and moving to temporary facilities. Project completion is expected in Spring 2025.  

Status: On schedule and under budget review 

Phase II (Food and Beverage) is a much bigger and more complex project to execute than Phase I. We recently communicated that construction cost trends were continuing to put upward pressure on project budgets industry wide, with Renew ‘22 being no exception. Industry trends indicate average inflationary increases of 10-12%.   

Following due process, Phase II has been priced by independent consultants at every design milestone. In addition, the Renew ‘22 Committee has worked in parallel to revise scope and reduce the level of finish to combat rising prices while meeting Renew ‘22 objectives and not compromising the integrity of the project.  With design of Phase II substantially complete (95%), we recently received updated cost estimates from two independent sources. With the information we have on hand today, cost estimates of Renew ‘22 now look to be slightly over budget, but less than the industry figures noted above.    

The final step in gaining clarity on the cost of Phase II is the completion of a competitive construction tender process; this is currently underway and will be completed in December.   

Given what we know today, Board and Management remain confident that with the contingencies remaining and the strong financial position of the Club, we will be able to complete Renew ‘22 in a fiscally responsible manner despite the market circumstances we are currently facing.   

We continue to be committed to keeping the Membership fully informed as budgetary details are finalized over the next two months. We strongly believe that these completed designs for Renew ‘22 are what our Club needs to enhance Member experience and preserve the value of Hollyburn for years to come.   

Permitting for Phase II is advancing well, and we are excited to commence construction as scheduled on January 2, 2024.  



Upcoming Facility Changes

  • Administration Offices are now open in the old Creekside Rooms (Level 3)  

  • Club Lounge is closed for Intermission (temporary Restaurant) transformation  

  • Baby Haven is closed for Bistro-Lite (temporary Bistro) transformation  

  • Bistro 950 closes December 17, 2023 and Bistro-Lite opens December 27, 2023  

  • Bar & Grill closes for construction on December 22, 2023, and Intermission opens on January 7, 2024  

  • Front Entrance and Sports Entrance closes on January 2, 2024  

  • Temporary Member Services opens in the North (Squash) Entrance on January 2, 2024 

  • HollyVille closes on December 24, 2023, and the Kids Centre opens on January 2, 2024 

A comprehensive access plan outlining closures, detours and potential impacts to your Member experience will be communicated prior to the start of Phase II construction. We thank Members for their continued patience and hope everyone is enjoying watching our Club evolve!
