Renew ‘22 - November 2024 Update
Dear Members,
We are excited to share the latest updates on Phase II of Renew '22, as we continue to make steady progress. The project remains both on time and on budget, and we are pleased to report that several key milestones have been reached. Here are the top highlights you should know:
Concrete pouring is nearly complete, with only the main patio staircase remaining. With the concrete slab fully poured, Members can now see the scale of the new exterior patio on the south side of the building.
Framing is well underway on both levels, and we are on track to begin drywall installation by mid-October.
The new roofing is now nearing completion, providing a significant milestone in securing the structure ahead of the upcoming fall weather.
Glazing will be arriving this month, allowing us to fully enclose the building envelope and shift our focus to the interior space.
Mechanical and electrical equipment installation above the Swim Changerooms is now complete and the changerooms are open.
As we move into the next phase of construction, the transformation is becoming more tangible, and we are thrilled to see the new facilities taking shape.
Progress Update
As we transition into fall, both exterior and interior work is advancing smoothly. On the exterior, concrete work is 95% complete, and the framing for both levels is more than halfway finished. Roofing is also 90% complete, with mechanical equipment being installed on the roof and final touches expected in the coming weeks. By mid-November, windows and glazing are scheduled for installation, which will fully seal the building.
Inside, mechanical and electrical work is nearing completion, allowing the installation of major kitchen equipment, such as refrigerators and coolers, in both the Bistro and main restaurant kitchens in the coming weeks. Flooring and stainless steel elements are also being added this month. Framing is anticipated to be done by mid-October, paving the way for drywall installation and wall finishing. Final selections for furniture, fixtures, and equipment are being made to ensure that all items are ordered and delivered on time, keeping the project on schedule.
While the construction team works diligently on the physical space, Management is equally focused behind the scenes on ensuring a seamless operational launch for our new food and beverage facilities. We have begun recruiting key culinary team members, developing service training programs, testing new IT systems, and creating preliminary menu concepts. As we design processes and menus tailored to your preferences, we value your input. All Members were invited to participate in a Food & Beverage Experience Survey.
Budget & Schedule
Phase II of Renew '22 continues to stay on budget. As a reminder, the project’s approved budget of $23.3M is funded through the Club’s capital budget (generated by new Member entrance fees) and traditional bank financing. A well-structured contingency fund has played a crucial role in maintaining the budget, absorbing inflationary pressures and covering anticipated expenses during the high-risk demolition and exploratory site work phases, which have now been successfully completed.
Favourable summer weather, combined with a systematic construction and procurement schedule, has kept Phase II on schedule. We expect construction to be completed in the spring, followed by commissioning of the new areas and staff training. The anticipated opening of the new facilities is set for June 2025.
